The Company
How long has SSE been providing professional services?
SSE incorporated in 2001 and has been providing professional services continuously since that time.
What services does SSE provide?
SSE provides project evaluation, cost estimating, technical and shop drawing preparation, system manufacturing, coordination and logistics, job site delivery, and project management.
Where does SSE manufacture its material?
SSE is headquartered in Southern California and we provide all design and management services from our Southern California headquarters. PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser Systems and PREFOAM EPS Geofoam Systems are manufactured within six regional hubs with more than 40 manufacturing partners. This business model ensures responsive, cost efficient manufacturing and distribution of our projects.
Does SSE provide installation services?
SSE does not directly employ installation crews. However, over the years we have developed relationships with experienced concrete subcontractors and independent installation crews. We would be happy to address the need for installation services on a case-by-case basis.
Does SSE provide structural engineering services?
No. SSE does not have in-house structural engineering and it is not typically required as part of the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser Systems. However, we have relationships with experienced structural engineers throughout North American and can, in many cases, provide a recommendation for a third party structural engineer with prior PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System experience if required.
PREFOAM EPS Geofoam
Is PREFOAM EPS Geofoam manufactured in different densities to accommodate different compressive strength requirements?
Yes, PREFOAM EPS Geofoam is manufactured in densities ranging from EPS 12 @ 2.2 psi @ 1% deformation to EPS 46 @ 18.6 psi @ 1% deformation. For PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser Systems, EPS 15 @ 3.6 psi @ 1% deformation is typically specified (ASTM 6817). Please refer to the EPS Data Sheet in the technical section of this website for more detailed information.
What size are the PREFOAM EPS Geofoam Blocks?
PREFOAM EPS Geofoam is manufactured as a 48’W x 36”H x 16’L block. Typically PREFOAM EPS Geofoam blocks are shipped to the jobsite in lengths no longer than 96” for ease of handling. PREFOAM EPS Geofoam blocks can be provided at any height from 2” – 36” and can also easily be pre-cut at a predetermined slope (angle) in any single direction.
How much does PREFOAM EPS Geofoam weigh?
PREFOAM EPS Geofoam 15 weighs approximately 1#/Cu. Ft. A pre-cut 48” x 36”H x 96”L PREFOAM Geofoam block is 96 cubic feet and weighs approximately 96 pounds.
PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser Systems
Is there a height limitation for stacking PREFOAM EPS Geofoam blocks?
SSE has provided PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser Systems for many large format cinemas where the PREFOAM EPS Geofoam blocks are stacked as high as sixteen feet. PREFOAM EPS Geofoam blocks are dimensionally stable and there is no predetermined height limit for stacking the blocks.
Is there any limitation to the platform depth (front to back) or riser height for the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser Systems?
No, the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser Systems can be designed to accommodate virtually any riser height or platform depth.
How does the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System address under platform storage, restrooms, concessions or other occupied space?
Structural steel framing is typically utilized for the construction of the occupied space prior to delivery of the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System. Traditionally, the structural engineer will incorporate a structural deck above the occupied space which will serve as one platform for the tiered seating. PREFOAM EPS Geofoam blocks are then stacked on the structural deck to construct additional tiers of stadium seating above the occupied space below.
Can the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System be used for constructing platforms designed for riser mounted seating?
Yes, the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System can easily accommodate riser mounted seating with the addition of a four inch vertical channel of concrete behind the risers to accept the mounting hardware needed for riser mount seating.
Can PREFOAM EPS Geofoam blocks be precut to accommodate a dish in the elevation of the existing floor in retrofit applications?
PREFOAM EPS Geofoam blocks are typically only cut to accommodate a slope in one direction. However, there are other options that can be used to accommodate a compound slope on the existing slab.
Does the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System require any field modification to the steel components by the installing contractor?
No, unique ONLY to the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System, all steel components are prefabricated to accommodate the specific dimensions of the tiered seating layout without the need for contractor field cutting.
PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System Advantages over other methods of construction
What is the advantage of the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser Systems over conventional steel stud construction?
Typically, if installed by a concrete subcontractor familiar with the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System, a savings of approximately 35-40% in labor costs can be realized by the installing contractor over the cost of installing a conventional pan-deck system. Even with a “first-time” installer, by the time the crew has installed the system in the first one or two locations, they can increase efficiency and speed by more than 50% throughout the duration of the installation.
How does the cost of the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System compare with the cost of traditional steel stud and pan construction?
Typically the overall cost of the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System will be approximately 15-25% less than the cost of the steel system.
How long will it take to install the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System in a 150 seat auditorium?
The installation contractor should be able to install the PREFOAM EPS Geofoam blocks and Steel System including intermediate steps in no more than 1 ½ days with a four man crew.
Does the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System require certified installers?
No, in fact, during a recent church project in the North Eastern US, the parishioners participated in the installation of the PREFOAM Stadium Seating Riser System. On that project, at the end of the construction, the church reported a savings of more than $65,000.00 in costs due to the use of unskilled and/or volunteer labor.
